Common moorhen

Characteristics

The common moorhen has a black-brown body with white spots on the sides and white feathers under the tail feathers. The base of its beak and forehead are red, the tip of the beak is yellow, and its legs are yellow-green.
Habits: The common moorhen is omnivorous and feeds on aquatic plants, plant shoots, aquatic insects, and molluscs, such as river snails.
Resident/Common; Body length: 33 cm
Birdwatching period: year round

Distribution

The common moorhen inhabits ponds and lakes, as well as grasses and paddy fields by marshes.
